Trail Blazers Fined and Executives Suspended Over Yang Hansen Scouting Violation
Portland Trail Blazers
April 2026
Portland were fined $100,000 by the NBA after the league found the franchise made illegal contact with Yang Hansen while he was still draft-ineligible. Assistant general managers Sergi Oliva and Mike Schmitz were also suspended for two weeks without pay. The violation related to scouting contact in December 2023, two years before Hansen entered the draft. Portland said it self-reported the issue, cooperated fully with the investigation, and accepted the league’s punishment after later selecting Hansen with the 16th pick.
