Dallas guard Dante Exum will miss the entire season after complications from an offseason procedure forced him to undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee, ending hopes he could stabilise the Mavericks’ backcourt while Kyrie Irving continues his long recovery from a serious knee injury. Exum, a former fifth overall pick, had re-signed on a one-year deal after injuries limited him to 55 and then 20 games in his first two Dallas seasons, and now faces another long rehabilitation stint with career averages of 6.2 points and 2.3 assists across his NBA stops.
