Navas Sparks Pumas’ Defensive Revival in Liga MX

Keylor Navas (Pumas)
September 2025

Since Keylor Navas’ debut in Week 3, Pumas have transformed defensively, going unbeaten in seven matches. The Costa Rican veteran has conceded only four goals, earned three shutouts, and lifted Pumas to seventh place after a shaky start with young keeper Rodrigo Parra. Navas’ leadership has reshaped Efraín Juárez’s team into the league’s toughest defense, outpacing Cruz Azul and Tijuana in goals conceded. Though still outside Liga MX’s top five, Pumas’ resurgence has given fans belief they can climb further and avoid the play-in route.

Cruz Azul Could Cash In on Bogusz Amid German Interest

Mateusz Bogusz (Cruz Azul)
September 2025

Cruz Azul may entertain offers for Polish attacker Mateusz Bogusz, who has logged just 346 minutes across six Apertura matches under Nicolás Larcamón. A German club is reportedly preparing a $13m bid, which the Mexican side would not dismiss outright. Bogusz has tallied only two goals and seven assists in 31 appearances, struggling to adapt to Larcamón’s system that prioritizes central build-up and fullback width. Though praised for professionalism, he has slipped behind Luka Romero in pecking order, sparking speculation about a move abroad.

Giakoumakis Exit Looms as MLS Clubs Circle Cruz Azul Striker

Giorgos Giakoumakis (Cruz Azul)
Clausura 2025

The Greek striker is falling out of favor at Cruz Azul and could be on his way back to MLS. Despite being signed for $10.5 million ahead of Apertura 2024, he has failed to cement his role under Vicente Sánchez and is now the third-choice forward behind Ángel Sepúlveda and Mateusz Bogusz.
Giakoumakis has scored just two goals in 10 Clausura 2025 matches and hasn’t scored since Matchday 5. His past MLS success with Atlanta United has attracted interest from multiple clubs, per reports from TUDN and GiveMeSport.

Edson Álvarez Rejected Cruz Azul for the Challenge at Club América

Edson Álvarez (West Ham United)
Reflecting on his early career

West Ham and Mexico star Edson Álvarez revealed he once rejected a youth contract at Cruz Azul because “it felt too easy.” Instead, he chose the more competitive path at Club América, where he eventually turned pro and won Liga MX and Copa MX titles.
Álvarez explained he declined Cruz Azul’s offer after one trial, despite his father’s support for the club. He later faced rejections, including from Pachuca, before breaking through at América and making a €15M move to Ajax in 2019. He joined West Ham for €40M in 2023 and has since captained Mexico.
