Álvarez explained he declined Cruz Azul’s offer after one trial, despite his father’s support for the club. He later faced rejections, including from Pachuca, before breaking through at América and making a €15M move to Ajax in 2019. He joined West Ham for €40M in 2023 and has since captained Mexico.
