The Confederation of African Football could reverse its decision to stage the Africa Cup of Nations every four years. CAF president Patrice Motsepe has reportedly reopened discussions about retaining the tournament’s traditional two-year cycle following widespread opposition from coaches, officials and supporters.

CAF announced a four-year cycle in December 2025, starting with the 2028 edition. A proposal to reverse that decision is expected to be considered at the governing body’s general assembly in Abuja on 21 November. Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard and DR Congo coach Sebastien Desabre have publicly supported retaining the biennial format. No reversal has been formally approved.
