Major League Soccer owners have elected LAFC co-owner Larry Berg as the league’s next commissioner. Berg secured the required two-thirds majority and will officially succeed Don Garber on 1 January 2027, becoming only the third commissioner in MLS history.

Berg must divest his LAFC ownership stake before taking office, while Garber will become league chairman. He inherits major decisions involving roster spending, competition reforms, the 2027 calendar switch, collective bargaining and the next media-rights agreement.
