French Football Federation and Gianni Infantino
10 September 2026
The French Football Federation has withdrawn its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino and called for far-reaching governance reform. It cited events involving FIFA leadership that it says conflict with good-governance principles and the values of football ahead of the 2027 election.
France’s move follows FIFA abandoning its plan to sell a minority stake in commercial and event operations after widespread opposition. The Belgian federation has also withdrawn support, while UEFA and several confederations have intensified pressure on Infantino over governance concerns.
