FIFA, Emilio García Silvero, Gianni Infantino and Jan Kleiner
6 November 2026
FIFA has confirmed that chief legal and compliance officer Emilio García Silvero is leaving after eight years. His departure follows another senior executive exit amid controversy surrounding FIFA’s abandoned World Cup commercial investment proposal.
García Silvero announced plans to pursue a new professional opportunity in Madrid. During his tenure, he helped oversee reforms involving football agents, international transfers and regulatory payments. FIFA appointed Jan Kleiner to lead its legal and compliance departments on an interim basis. The departure follows former chief operating officer Kevin Lamour’s resignation in August after criticism of the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal.
Why It Matters
Another senior departure adds to FIFA's leadership uncertainty ahead of its presidential election and upcoming governance decisions.
