St. Louis City won the first major trophy in their history after defeating Columbus Crew in a penalty shootout following a goalless U.S. Open Cup final. Substitute goalkeeper Ben Lundt made a decisive save as St. Louis converted all five of their penalties to win the shootout 5-3.

The match remained 0-0 through regulation and extra time. Starting goalkeeper Roman Bürki was stretchered off after suffering a head injury during a collision with Columbus winger Anass Zaroury. Lundt replaced him and later saved Santiago Rodríguez’s penalty, allowing Daniel Edelman to convert the winning kick. St. Louis also qualified for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. Bürki was conscious and moving his limbs when taken to hospital, but his diagnosis was not yet confirmed.
