    Lazio Ordered to Pay Gothberg Compensation

    Lazio Women have been ordered to compensate former midfielder Maja Gothberg after CAS found the club unlawfully ended her employment because of pregnancy. The ruling also awarded moral damages and cited disclosure of confidential pregnancy information.

    FIFPro called the case groundbreaking because it reinforces maternity protections even where contract terms were not fully formalised. Gothberg said pregnancy should never be treated as a problem or reason to deny labour opportunities in football.

    Atletico to Report Barcelona Over Alvarez

    Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin says the club will report Barcelona to FIFA over their pursuit of Julian Alvarez. Atletico believe Barcelona influenced Alvarez’s public comments about wanting to leave this summer now.

    Gil Marin said Atletico do not want to transfer Alvarez and accused Barcelona of disrespect. The dispute deepens one of the summer’s biggest sagas, with Arsenal and PSG also linked to the striker this window.

    Colombia Beat DR Congo to Reach Knockouts

    Colombia booked a World Cup last-32 place with a 1-0 win over DR Congo in Guadalajara. Daniel Munoz scored the decisive 76th-minute goal, giving Colombia six points from two Group K matches so far overall.

    Goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi kept DR Congo alive with several saves before Munoz finally broke through. Colombia now face Portugal to decide the group winner, while DR Congo must recover against Uzbekistan in their finale.

    Leeds Agree Harry Wilson Contract

    Leeds have agreed a four-year contract with Fulham attacker Harry Wilson, who is out of contract next week. The Wales international would arrive on a free transfer, subject to a medical and formal signing of terms.

    Wilson was Fulham’s player of the season after 11 goals and eight assists, so his exit would hurt. Leeds had tried to sign him last summer and are also pursuing Julian Brandt and Shea Charles.

    The uncertainty follows Chelsea’s move for Marco Palestra, another right-back, and wider plans to sell players after missing Europe. City want a natural right-back, though Gusto is not considered their leading target at this stage.

    Swansea Great Herbie Williams Dies

    Swansea City great and former Wales international Herbie Williams has died aged 85. Williams made 608 appearances for Swansea, scored 129 goals and remains third on the club’s all-time league appearance list following a decorated one-club career.

    Swansea said they were deeply saddened by the loss of one of their most loyal servants. Williams joined the club as a teenager in 1955 and later helped them reach the 1963-64 FA Cup semi-finals.

    Manchester United have secured a key land deal needed for their planned 100,000-seat stadium near Old Trafford. The project is now expected to open before 2035 rather than the previously discussed 2030 target for fans.

    The club acquired a 25-acre triangle of land from Indurent, allowing design work to resume. Foster + Partners are leading the plans, while United want the £2bn venue to become a major global sports hub.

    Raphinha Faces Longer Brazil Absence

    Raphinha says he will do everything possible to play again at the World Cup after suffering a hamstring injury against Haiti. The Brazil winger will miss Scotland and is unlikely to return before the round of 16.

    ESPN Brasil reported a quarter-final comeback may be more realistic, with this his fourth hamstring problem in a year. Ancelotti can use Rayan, Gabriel Martinelli or Neymar while Raphinha recovers from the latest setback.

    Wales manager Craig Bellamy is in advanced talks with Burnley over becoming their new head coach. Burnley have approached the Football Association of Wales and are prepared to meet his compensation clause if a final agreement is reached.

    The move would take Bellamy back to Turf Moor after his previous assistant role under Vincent Kompany. It would also force Wales into another search, with Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards named as possible successors.
