Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has undergone successful surgery after fracturing his jaw during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton. The Argentina international also suffered a concussion and expects to return in a few weeks, according to his social media update.
Martinez collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and required eight minutes of treatment before being stretchered off. He was taken to hospital for surgery and subsequently confirmed the operation went well. His absence gives 21-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders an opportunity to start upcoming matches against Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United.
