Football supporters in Scotland will be permitted to drink alcohol in sight of the pitch at a professional match for the first time since 1981. The trial will take place during Scotland’s Women’s World Cup play-off against the Czech Republic.
Renfrewshire Council approved alcohol sales in the East and West stands at St Mirren’s stadium. The Scottish FA intends to evaluate whether controlled sales can operate safely. The women’s fixture is not subject to the same legislation restricting alcohol consumption in view of the pitch.
