Al Ahly defeated rivals Zamalek 2-0 in the Cairo derby, giving Moroccan manager Hussein Ammouta victory in his first Egyptian derby as coach. The result provisionally lifted Al Ahly to the top of the Egyptian Premier League with sixteen points.
Ammouta guided his side to a decisive victory at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the league campaign. Al Ahly moved one point ahead of Pyramids, who still had their sixth-round fixture against Ceramica Cleopatra to play.
