CAF and Patrice Motsepe
9 October 2026
CAF is reviewing its decision to move the Africa Cup of Nations from a two-year cycle to a four-year cycle. President Patrice Motsepe confirmed discussions are underway about retaining the tournament’s traditional biennial schedule.
CAF announced the proposed change in December 2025, but it attracted criticism over reduced national-team exposure and commercial opportunities. Motsepe confirmed the scheduling policy is under review, although no formal reversal or revised tournament calendar has been announced.
