Sophia Wilson, Portland Thorns and NWSL
8 October 2026
The NWSL has extended Portland Thorns forward Sophia Wilson’s suspension to two matches following a hair-pulling incident against Boston Legacy. The United States international initially received a red card before league officials imposed an additional one-match ban.
The disciplinary committee classified Wilson’s conduct as major game misconduct after reviewing the incident involving Lais Araujo. She will miss Portland’s upcoming fixtures against Bay FC and North Carolina Courage during their push for a play-off place.
